Parts of city's Sneinton and Hockley areas to be hit with roadworks from Sunday

RESURFACING work will begin on roads in the east of Nottingham on Sunday, resulting in some closures.

The first set of roadworks will take in sections of King Edward Street and Bath Street, which will be closed from 9am-4pm on Sunday, and from 7-11pm on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Temporary bus stops will be set up on Shelton Street.

The second set of works will begin at the bottom of the city's Hockley area on Sunday, March 6, from 9am-4pm, and will continue from 7-11pm on Monday 7, Tuesday 8, Wednesday 9 and Thursday 10 March.

The bottom end of Goose Gate and the Hockley link road will be closed to traffic from Belward Street. Traffic along Belward Street will also be reduced to one lane.

Affected bus services will run along Lower Parliament Street and a signed diversion will be in place for all other traffic. The temporary traffic restrictions will be lifted at all other times.

The work is part of Nottingham City Council's 6.8m Connecting Eastside scheme, which is funded by the European Regional Development Fund, East Midlands Development Agency and Central Government.

Said Coun Jane Urquhart, Portfolio Holder for Transport and Area Working: "The Connecting Eastside scheme is all about providing better links for pedestrians and cyclists, and easier routes for motorists.

"This resurfacing is helping to put the finishing touches to the transport links being created and further improvements to paving and pedestrian crossings will take place in the coming weeks".
