Jilted lover killed ex-girlfriend's pet kitten by throwing it at wall

A JILTED lover killed his ex-girlfriend's kitten and destroyed her clothes in a sickening revenge attack.

Matthew Falkingham placed the two-month-old white and tortoiseshell cat called Daisy in a pillow case and slammed her against the wall after his partner split up with him.

Stacie Baker rushed back to her Beverley home after he sent her a chilling text saying: "I've killed your cat."

She found her beloved pet's lifeless body in a suitcase in her shed, along with hundreds of pounds of worth of clothes that had been ruined.

Miss Baker, 19, who lived in Queens Road, said: "I am devastated. How can someone do that to an innocent animal?

"I hope he is locked up, because he deserves it."

The teenagers met through friends in April last year and dated for just two months before the relationship started to go sour.

Falkingham, 19, lives in Moorside Avenue, Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, but regularly visited Beverley, where his brother lives. Miss Baker shared a flat with one of his relatives.

She said: "At first, our relationship was perfect.

"But we'd began rowing and the night before this happened he threw a glass cabinet towards me. I told him I wanted to end the relationship."

The next day, on June 10 last year, Falkingham came round to Miss Baker's and was let in by her flatmate.

After killing the cat, he sent her a text message that said: "I've killed your cat and wrecked your stuff. I hope I have ruined your life like you have ruined mine."

Phillip Brown, prosecuting, told Beverley Magistrates' Court: "The cat died from a blunt trauma, which caused her lungs and liver to rupture.

"There would have been a few minutes of shock and suffering before she died, as well as the distress of being confined in a pillow case."

Falkingham also covered Miss Baker's clothes, make-up, hair straighteners and mobile phone with paint, causing 450 of damage.

Miss Baker said: "I felt sick to my stomach when I got home and saw Daisy. She was a lovely, playful little thing.

"He's shown no remorse over what he's done.

"I'd urge anyone is this position to be brave and report cruelty to animals to the RSPCA and also not to put up with violence towards themselves."

Falkingham had previously written on a picture of the cat posted on Miss Baker's Facebook wall "ugly thing lol".

Miss Baker has since moved back to Plymouth, where she is originally from. She is now engaged to another man and is 23 weeks pregnant.

Falkingham pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary cruelty to an animal and criminal damage and will be sentenced next month. He faces up to 51 weeks in prison and/or a fine up to 20,000. When approached by the Mail, Falkingham refused to comment.
