The Seattle Seahawks have declared wide receiver Sidney Rice, signed as a free agent in the offseason to be their top wideout, inactive for Sunday's matchup with the San Francisco 49ers as reported by Mike Sando of ESPN. The 25 year old has been battling a shoulder injury after playing in only six games a season ago.
The news is another blow to a Seahawks offense that has sputtered in the preseason, will be without starting tackle Robert Gallery, and features Tarvaris Jackson at quarterback (which sort of like saying a toilet features, um, you know).
This likely means that wide receiver Mike Williams and tight end Zach Miller will see additional targets in the passing game today, but Miller may be held in more to help with blocking and Williams will be hard pressed to catch passes that sail eight feet over his head or one-hop to him, so neither is a recommended fantasy play.
Neither is running back Marshawn Lynch, who will almost certainly face eight men in the box for much of the day since the San Francisco defense has very little to fear from the Seattle passing "attack".
In fact, if you want to get right down to it, the only fantasy players from a Seattle Seahawks game that you generally want in your fantasy football lineup are Seattle's opponents, as it's looking a very long season in the Emerald City.
Ladies and gentlemen, we may have a front runner in the "Suck for Luck" sweepstakes, and that front runner is in the Pacific Northwest.
