NFL Picks Week 3: Rules for Winning This Week's NFL Office Pool

All across the country, workplaces are running NFL pick'em pools.  The majority of these pools give employees a chance to win some money and bragging rights.  It often enhances the watching experience for the casual fan, as more people watch games to see the result of their picks.

If you don't have a vast knowledge of the NFL, you should follow some basic rules.  Participating in the weekly pool is fun, but you shouldn't just throw your money away.  It is almost impossible to pick every game correctly, but you want to have a fighting chance. Below are a few rules for filling out your weekly pick'em pool.

1. Do not pick a team because you like their uniforms

- While this tactic may work in the NCAA tournament, it won't work in the NFL

2. Do not pick a team based on historic success

- The San Francisco 49ers are a team with a rich history, but are lacking recent success

3. When in doubt, go with the home team

- Home field advantage is a real thing. Tavel fatigue could have an impact.

- If it is a west coast team traveling east, the odds of winning really decrease

4. Know the stars of the league, Tom Brady always gives New England a chance to win

- Players like Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers always give their team a chance to win

5. Consider the location and weather conditions

- If you see a southern team traveling north, watch to see if the weather will be cold

6. Do some research, and wait until Friday to submit your picks

- Injuries play a major role in the outcome of a game

- Wait until Friday and research some injury news

7. Watch the games

- No better way to increase your knowledge than to watch the games

- Pay attention to the announcers and their analysis.
