Olympic torch to come to Hull ahead of 2012 London games

Hull is poised for a multi-million pound windfall after it was chosen as one of the cities to host the Olympic torch.

Thousands of people are expected to flock to East Yorkshire to see the iconic flame, generating millions for the local economy.

The torch will be kept overnight in the city on June 18 next year, after arriving from Middlesbrough, attracting celebrities, sports personalities and the world's media as it burns through the night. The following day it will be carried to York.

It is part of a 70-day tour before the 2012 London games' opening ceremony and will be the focus of two days of celebration in the city.
