In Brief

COTTINGHAM: Cottingham High School's conversion to academy status is now earmarked for July 1.

The secondary has encountered monthly delays since its original conversion date failed to go ahead on April 1.

A further delay in breaking away from local authority control on May 1 was blamed on "technical legal reasons".

The school then pencilled in June 1, but head teacher Elizabeth Logan told the Mail she is now hoping for July 1.

She said: "It's up to the LEA (East Riding Council) and the DfE (Department for Education) to put pressure on the solicitors to get the paperwork done."

GOOLE: The Lowther Hotel is celebrating a double success.

The grade-two listed building in Aire Street was restored to its former glory last year.

The hotel has now achieved a three-star rating and has also won the Built Heritage Award, in the East Riding Council chairman's annual awards.

The hotel is a family business run by Julie and Howard Duckworth, together with their son Rik.

Mrs Duckworth said: "The restoration of The Lowther Hotel was a labour of love for Howard and me.

"From the moment we first looked around, we were able to see beyond the damp, dry rot and other damage caused by years of neglect."

BEVERLEY: Molescroft Primary's Green Team have sold hundreds of pounds worth of Fairtrade products since setting up a Fair Trading Post at the school.

Since its launch in March, pupils have sold more than 300 of products.
