Hull Jobshop support grows as petition gathers 1,300 signatures

HULL: A petition launched to save Hull JobShop has now reached more than 1,000 signatures.

As revealed in the Mail, the centre is facing closure as funding will run out in July.

Now, 1,300 people have signed a petition to keep it open, despite the online petition page crashing this week.

Manager Ben Elton said: "Despite the site crashing, we have had a lot of signatures. We hope it will be up and running again shortly.

"When we reach 1,500 signatures, we will be able to put our point across to Hull City Council formally.

"I am already preparing a business case setting out our concerns.

"The JobShop isn't broken – it works perfectly – so why change it?"

NHS Hull and Hull City Council gave the original funding when the centre opened in November 2009 with the aim of finding people employment in the public sector.

If an authority or backer cannot fund the 130,000 a year it will cost to run, managers say job- seekers will have to go elsewhere.
