Read the Mail's Hull Blitz 70th anniversary supplement online

The Mail's special supplement to mark the 70th anniversary of the Blitz is now available online.

Mail editor John Meehan said: "We have been inundated with requests from readers for additional copies of the Mail.

"With many requests coming from overseas, we felt it was right to produce the supplement as an e-book on our website for our online community."

The Mail produced the special supplement to mark the 70th anniversary of the worst two nights of the Blitz on Hull – May 7/8 and May 8/9, 1941.

The terrible bombardment of the city claimed the lives of 454 men, woman and children.

Produced as an exact copy of the style of the Mail during the war, using authentic adverts, fonts and typefaces, the supplement reveals the true horror of the devastation inflicted on the city.

Given away free with the Mail on May 6, the eight-page supplement is the most complete account of the bombings the newspaper has ever produced.

Wartime censorship banned the Mail for reporting on the scale of the devastation at the time of the bombing during World War Two..

Using eye-witness accounts and interviews from survivors, the supplement has been written in the present tense, as if the bombings had just happened.
