Parents are on 'high alert' after children targeted in Carlton and Bulwell

POLICE have received a new report of school children being approached by a suspicious man after they released details of three attempted abductions.

There were two attempted abductions of two girls in Carlton on Monday and Tuesday, when a black man aged between 30 and 40 asked them to get into a car.

Officers believe the incidents may be linked to one at Bulwell golf course on Monday, where a man fitting the same description grabbed the bag of a 14-year-old girl as she walked and told her to "come here". She was able to wrestle free and run away.

A further incident has now been reported in Kirkby- in-Ashfield where a black man approached a group of children and offered them cannabis. The police confirmed they had received calls from the school but have not linked this incident to the other three.

Top Valley School and Engineering College, Bulwell Academy and Porchester Junior School in Carlton yesterday sent out letters and text messages to parents warning them to be extra vigilant and encouraging pupils to walk in pairs.

Parent Ron Wilson, picking up his daughter Lauren Parr, 12, from the Bulwell Academy yesterday, said people had been shocked by the news.

"I appreciate the school letting us know but it is a worry for people," he said.

Mum Carol Hurford said she had taken time off work to collect her daughter.

"I wouldn't normally do this, but you just can't risk it. We are all concerned," she said.

And another parent, Charlena Stobbs, said: "All parents are on high alert."

Head teachers have been teaching children to scream and run should they find themselves in a dangerous situation. Porchester School head Keith Harrison said: "It's very upsetting for the girls involved and it has a knock-on affect on the rest of the school.

"The mood of our school is very weary. It's an awful thing to have happened and thankfully very rare. These people need to be brought to justice as quickly as possible."

Kirkby College refused to comment on the incident, but Bulwell Academy principal Graham Roberts said: "We are warning parents [that] children should walk in pairs."

Superintendent Mike Manley said: "We have organised additional patrols around schools in Carlton and Bulwell at times when children are arriving and leaving.

"We have also had a large number of calls from the public offering useful information."

People can contact police with any information or to report an incident on 0300 300 9999.
