Training awards for childminders

A GROUP of 18 childminders from the Clifton area have received praise for their achievements at an evening of NVQ graduations.

The @Home Childcare Training group held the awards for women who have completed the NVQ in children's care, learning and development level 3 while building their businesses as childminders and juggling family commitments.

One of the winners was Andrea Brooks, who received the Against the Odds Award for completing the course in just 12 weeks while looking after her four children.

She said: "I thoroughly enjoyed the course and am really delighted that @Home Childcare presented me with this award.

"It's a long time since I had done any formal education and I wasn't very confident starting off, but my tutor was excellent and gave me a lot of support.

"Finishing the course has really boosted my confidence and made me realise that childminding is a valuable occupation and can be very rewarding. It's given me the incentive to do more courses in the future too."

Yvette Oliver-Mighten, director of @Home Childcare Training, said: "What was so great about this group was the amount of support they gave each other along the way.

"Being a childminder is a fantastic way to have an income while caring for your own children."
