Beeston Air Cadets sign up for their share of 35,000

AIR cadets in Beeston are one of 300 groups set to benefit from our 35,000 cash giveaway.

The Cash For Your Community campaign was launched on April 13.

The response was so fantastic that an extra 10,000 was donated by Nottingham Building Society so that organisations didn't miss out.

Readers will be able to collect coupons for the 1359 Beeston Air Training Corps from Wednesday, May 25. The more coupons each group gets, the bigger their share will be.

Civilian community chairman Ann Middleton , in charge of fundraising for the air cadets, is delighted to be involved with the initiative.

"We've had a couple of grants and done fundraising ourselves, so I thought this would be a good way of getting a bit more," she said. "We are fundraising this year for a trailer for our minibus because we take cadets on camp and we have to fill four back seats with equipment at the moment, so this year is our big push for a trailer."

Being able to buy the trailer, which Mrs Middleton thinks will cost about 1,200, will enable four more cadets to go on camp. She said it would be nice to open those seats up because the trips are always over-subscribed.

Mrs Middleton also said that the air cadets was a worthy cause to give money to because of the work they do in the community.

"We are always in schools recruiting, we are at the Beeston carnival, we've led the Remembrance Day parade for last three years and as opposed to any other youth group all our activities are free so hang gliding and sports activities are funded ourselves," she said. "The only thing they have to pay for is the camps so the group is open to more of the community.

"If we didn't get grants like this we would fund it ourselves, it wouldn't close us down, but we are on a very tight budget because we don't get any funding from anywhere else. It's all from fundraising which can be hard work for very little comeback sometimes."

To find out if your organisation has been successful as one of the 300 groups who will benefit keep checking the Post. Another 15 groups will be revealed tomorrow.
