Royal Wedding: Party-goers are told to celebrate sensibly

THERE will be an increased number of police on the streets of Notts as people celebrate the royal wedding.

With nearly 80 street parties taking place in the county, officers are keen to see people's festivities go off without a hitch.

A force spokesman said: "Notts Police have put plans in place to facilitate the street parties to celebrate the royal wedding and there will be an increased police presence in the city and county.

"We hope that everyone enjoys the day sensibly whatever they choose to do."

The ambulance service is urging people to drink responsibly during the wedding to ensure that 999 services are available for people who need them.

East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) is expecting to be kept busy dealing with alcohol related illnesses and injuries.

An EMAS spokesman said: "A lot of people will be celebrating this weekend and some may over indulge.

"All too often our ambulance crews have to deal with people who have had too much to drink.

"This poses a risk to the wider public because while we are dealing with an alcohol related incident, we can be delayed getting to someone suffering from a medical illness such as a heart attack or stroke.

"Our message is clear – don't ruin the festivities... enjoy yourself but be sensible."
