A CHILDREN'S services provider has pledged to take on ten apprentices through the Mail's Apprenticeship Challenge.
Kidzplus Group has become the first employer in East Yorkshire to commit to taking on ten apprentices.
Five apprentices have already started work in Tillymints Day Nurseries across Hull.
The chain of nurseries has been bought out by Kidzplus, which aims to open a 30,000sq ft centre at the site of the old Kwik Save in Holderness Road, east Hull.
Ken Fellows, chief executive of Kidzplus Group, said: "I wholeheartedly back the campaign because apprentices are your talent of the future.
"In these times it is absolutely the right way forward to help people get back into employment on their chosen career and gain employment at the end.
"We have dipped our toe in the water with apprentices over the years, more so on the administrative side.
"But seeing the 100 in 100 campaign in the Mail, we started to investigate what options were available – not just in administrative, but also technical and childcare for when we move into the new centre.
"We have established a good relationship with Hull College and all but one of our apprentices have come from there."
The five who have started are all on nursery nurse apprenticeships.
Mr Fellows said: "We have pledged to take on another five to start on apprenticeships in other skills in the centre when it is open."
Kidzplus aims to open a series of children's centres across the country, choosing Hull as its first location.
It aims to offer a different approach to early years education.
