In Brief

EAST YORKS: A rugby match in memory of one of East Yorkshire's best-known amateur players will take place later this month.

The fourth annual Simon Smith Charity Shield will be held at Hullensians in Springhead Lane, Anlaby on April 24.

A warm-up game between rugby league clubs Hull Wyke Under 8's and Cottingham Tigers Under 8's will take place before the main game kicks off at 3pm.

A Simon Smith team, made up of Simon's friends and former teammates, will take on a Hullensians team.

Simon, of west Hull, who played for Hull Ionians and Hull Rugby Club and later coached at Hullensians, had motor neurone disease (MND) and died in April 2007, aged 38.
