Fire crews spend five hours tackling blaze at Flamborough cliffs

Damage caused by a fire at an East Yorkshire beauty spot was being examined this morning.

Crews from Bridlington spent more than five hours tackling the blaze at Flamborough cliffs.

The chalk and clay cliffs, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is popular with walkers and bird-watchers.

A spokesman for Humber Coastguard, close to the scene of the fire, said: "It was successfully dampened down by 9pm

"An assessment will be carried out this morning."
