Saltend protests: Hundreds of workers block plant entrance

​HUNDREDS of workers blocked the entrance to the Saltend chemicals plant this morning.

They gathered outside the plant before 7am this morning.

Vehicles were unable to get on and off the site but traffic on Hedon Road was not affected.

Police were at the scene.

Police said they were prepared for possible protests at Saltend following a dispute over the new bio-ethanol plant.

There was a large police presence on the Vivergo site yesterday morning after 450 staff employed by Redhall Engineering Solutions Ltd were told their jobs were in doubt after their contracts have been transferred to Vivergo.
