Prescott's concerns over BSkyB takeover

FORMER east Hull MP John Prescott wants the Goverment to delay the proposed merger between Rupert Murdoch's News Corp media group and satellite TV company BSkyB.

He has written to Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt asking for a decision over the merger to be put off until the News of the World phone hacking investigation is completed.

A YouGov survey reveals today that a majority of Britons oppose the merger.

Of 2,295 respondents, 60 per cent said Murdoch had too much influence on British politics and 64 per cent said the merger would give News Corporation too much power over the media.

Just five per cent of people said they would support a deal.

The Government has been running a public consultation on the takeover, which ends today.
