In Brief

GOOLE: A new housing development is set to be built in a run-down part of town.

East Riding Council and Peter Ward Homes are to redevelop Phoenix Street and Richard Cooper Street.

The scheme will see 59 new homes created, of which 19 will be affordable housing, as part of the Advance Goole programme, with investment from the Homes And Communities Agency.

Councillor Stephen Parnaby, leader of the council, said: "This is a really exciting project for Goole. The plans for this site are fantastic and will breathe new life into the area.

"The two streets we have removed were previously the source of a number of issues that have plagued the community, including a range of antisocial problems, now instead they will provide an attractive and enjoyable environment to live in."

Work on the mixture of two, three and four- bedroom homes, and public open spaces, will begin in August.

HOWDEN: Six concerts funded by Drax Power Station will take place between April and September.

They will be held on the first Saturday of each month at Howden Minster, starting at 7.30pm.

The first concert is on Saturday, April 2, when the Jorvik Gilbert And Sullivan Company will be giving a sing-along performance of The Pirates Of Penzance.
