Miami wound up winning the coin toss and chose to receive the ball. This was a smart way to get the crowd into the game, showcase the new offense that the Dolphins have spent the season upgrading.
On the drive, despite taking a sack while on the Patriots two yard line and a holding penalty on Anthony Fasano after a good Reggie Bush block, Miami scores a touchdown off of, and get ready for this, a designed QB draw from Chad Henne.
Miami is now up 7-0.
On the drive, Henne went 6 of 7 for 77 yards, with the only incomplete pass being a rare Davone Bess drop.
Meanwhile Brandon Marshall had two catches for 30 yards, and Fasano made up for his holding penalty with a 22 yard catch (that he caught with one hand) that put the Dolphins on the New England two.
There were still things to be concerned about, for instance the fact that the Dolphins burned two time outs as well as not only Fasano's penalty, but another penalty on Ritchie Incognito.
The drive lasted 7:18.
On the ensuing New England drive, the Patriots would respond with a touchdown of their own on a quick drive highlighted by a Brady to Matthew Slater 46 yard pass, followed a few plays later by a BenJarvus Green-Ellis 4-yard touchdown run.
After a Dolphins 3-and-out, New England is now driving as the first quarter comes to an end.
Game is now tied at 7-7.
