Leafs Should Have No Secure Playing Spots

from Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun, Brian Burke used to talk about blue and white disease when he took over the Leafs, but I wonder if he?s gotten a case of it himself: Burke declared there was one spot open among his top nine forwards heading to training camp. When you have a team that hasn?t been in the playoffs post-lockout, shouldn?t all spots be open? You can anoint your team in training camp if you?re the Vancouver Canucks. If you?re the Leafs, you can?t fall in love with players who simply haven?t been good enough.

After listening to all the experts, it?s impossible to know when Sidney Crosby will return to Pittsburgh?s lineup. But if I was a betting man, my sense was he plays no more than 40 games this season.

a few more hockey notes including the Leafs playoff chances?
