VOLUNTEERS are being sought to take up the challenge in a fast and furious equestrian sport.
The search is on for people to join a crash course in polo and then take part in a pro-am tournament.
White Rose Polo Club has thrown down the gauntlet to find potential new stars in the sport of kings.
Successful volunteers could be playing in the Summit Cup, one of Yorkshire's most prestigious polo events.
The club, based at Townend Farm in North Cliffe, near Market Weighton, runs the two-day tournament.
Claudia Aylott, managing director of the club's Summit Polo School, said: "The aim is to get the volunteers to a competitive standard in a matter of weeks.
"No polo or riding experience is needed, just the determination to learn quickly and compete at a high standard.
"There is no typical type of person we are looking for, but they must be keen to rise to the challenge and possess the will to win."
The appeal for volunteers is part of the club's aim to make the once elitist sport available to everyone.
Claudia and her husband, club founder Hedley Aylott, want to turn complete amateurs into team players for the competition.
She said: "The Summit Cup is a fabulous occasion and the pro-am competition is one of its highlights, with a large, enthusiastic crowd getting firmly behind the players.
"We provide the amateurs taking part with all the gear, including hats, boots, pads and mallets.
"They'll also receive fitness training from a personal fitness instructor and intensive tuition from Tony Wesche, the club's qualified coach.
"By they time they have completed the training, they will have the knowledge and skills they need to compete at such a high level."
Record spectator numbers attended the Summit Cup last year and the club's two other major tournaments, the Yorkshire Open and Castle Howard Cup.
Claudia added: "This opportunity is open to all-comers, whether they have had previous experience or not.
"There may be some people who have been to the club for a lesson in the past and would like to come back.
"Whoever they are, they will get the best training around with the aim of turning them into fully fledged players."
White Rose's widespread appeal is credited for increasing membership to more than 60 in just four seasons, making it one of the fastest growing clubs in the UK.
