Moving Hull Arena to Allam's sports village would depend on market conditions – report

A new report says any proposal to relocate Hull Arena would depend on the state of the economy.

Hull City's owner Assem Allam recently unveiled plans for an ice skating venue in his proposals for a sports village next to the KC Stadium in Hull or at Melton.

Options to relocate the council-run arena in Kingston Street to another site in the city were previously explored by the city development company Hull Forward.

Now, a new council report suggests market conditions would dictate any possible future move.

It says: "Any proposal for the relocation of the arena would need to consider current land values and potential for capital receipt, which may prove difficult to realise in the current market."

Due to be discussed by councillors next week, the report says visitors numbers and income at the arena have both been hit over the past 12 months because of the economic downturn, increased competition from Bridlington Spa as a live concert venue and falling crowds for Stingrays ice hockey matches.

The venue also needs a new ice refrigeration system installing.
