WWE Survivor Series 2011: What Does Future Hold for Michael Cole and Jim Ross?

Michael Cole and Jim Ross took part in the “Michael Cole Challenge” on Monday Night RAW. Even though he won only one of the three competitions, Cole emerged victorious in order to save his job as lead announcer on WWE's marquee program.

However, something bigger appears to be on the horizon for Cole.

He's played a major role is the current dissenter movement and the company could be setting him up to become a bigger character—perhaps a manager in the same vein as Vickie Guerrero that could help some of the struggling heels get more heat.

While he's a better announcer than most people give him credit for, Cole is no Jim Ross. Ross is a legend and loves the WWE so much that he's willing to get humiliated on a weekly basis just to keep his bond with Vince McMahon strong.

Speaking of McMahon, he's a big fan of Cole. That makes it more likely he'll attempt to find a bigger role for him.

It's always been painfully obvious the former journalist doesn't have enough wrestling skills to participate in frequent matches. However, the rare foray into the ring with his excessive amount of gear is always worth a chuckle.

Whatever the ultimate plan is for Cole, hopefully Ross can return to his rightful spot on RAW. If he's ready, willing and able to commentate on a weekly basis, he should be allowed to hold that position until he retires.

The most important thing is that Ross deserves more respect. Some may argue nobody forces him to play along with the comedy segments at his expense, but it's clear he would do anything to maintain a spot in the company. Nobody wants to see the poor guy step on a scale.

There will probably be a lot of big changes coming out of Survivor Series and hopefully one of them includes the permanent reuniting of Ross and Jerry Lawler. It's something that would certainly make the WWE Universe happy.

And last I checked, that's the ultimate goal.
