Conservationists set to benefit from our community cash campaign

CONSERVATIONISTS are out to scoop a big share of a community cash giveaway.

Notts Wildlife Trust aims to buy new equipment and continue its conservation projects using cash from the Nottingham Post's Cash For Your Community campaign.

The trust is one of 300 groups in the running for a slice of the 35,000 on offer.

The public can now vote for their favourites, with those with the most backing getting the most money.

Trust development officer Leon Haymard said the group had set up collection points at its offices and at Attenborough Nature Reserve for the coupons.

He said: "A lot of our equipment is getting old and needs replacing and it means we can improve things like school visits and build on the successful work we are already doing.

"We recently welcomed our 20,000th school visitor to the centre as part of our education programme and it's great to see youngsters getting passionate about wildlife."

The trust manages 68 reserves across Notts, and will use any money it receives to support campaigning and conservation projects, as well as improving school visits to its sites.

The trust also runs wildlife clubs for families.

Mr Haymard said: "We run a full range of groups and activities to help people enjoy the outdoors.

"We have a Moth Watch and Bat Watch sessions, as well as wildlife clubs for children as young as two through to teenagers and with the money we can buy equipment to make these groups more enjoyable.

"We are reliant upon donations and other support from members – we want to keep as much of it as free as possible so we have to fund-raise ourselves."

To help the Trust, all you need to do is cut out coupons from the Post. They will be printed every day until Friday, June 17. All coupons must be submitted with an application form, available from www.thisisnottingham.co.uk/cashforyourcommunity, and must be received by Wednesday, June 22.
