Blooming fantastic fundraiser

A GARDEN centre is relaunching its 5,000 breast cancer fundraising push after strong winds blew the first effort off course.

Coletta And Tyson grew 1,000 eye-catching pink hanging baskets with the aim of selling them all and donating 5 per basket sold to the Her Breast Friend charity.

But after a sunny April the blustery May put many people off buying hanging baskets. So the centre in Hull Road, Woodmansey, still has about 500 left. Luckily, the flowers have been kept inside and are now looking their best. Customers have the chance to help a worthy cause as well as giving their garden a blast of colour.

Coletta And Tyson retail sales director David Kemp said: "We've got them looking really good now so it would be a shame to let them go to waste.

"The aim is to raise 5,000 but the weather's not been kind. The main thing is we've had severe wind and gales."

Rachael Howbridge, chairman of Her Breast Friend, said: "It's a very generous offer by the garden centre and it's the first time something like this has happened in the area.

"We raise maybe 20,000 a year for the welfare and treatment of breast cancer patients. We bought a lymphodoema machine for Castle Hill Hospital."

Her Breast Friend holds regular meetings at Newland Christian Centre in Beverley Road, Hull.
