A BOYS' Brigade company is set to reopen for youngsters in Aspley.
The weekly group will initially be open to children aged from five to eight, but it is hoped a section for older people will be established in the future.
Anyone with an interest in becoming part of the Boys' Brigade is invited to attend the first session at Aspley Methodist Church on Saturday, May 7 from 2pm to 3pm.
Elaine Grieve, who was captain of 1st Ruddington Boys' Brigade and has been involved with the company since 1986, decided to set up the new company after becoming a member of the Aspley church.
"I changed churches and there used to be a Boys' Brigade company here and I was approached and asked if would I like to reopen it. I thought it was a fantastic idea," she said.
"I've seen boys come in there that have had their own problems. They've come out at 18-years-old and gone on to become very successful and I'd like to think the Boys' Brigade has played a little part in that.
"I just think it's important that these young people have somewhere to go and something to do.
"We are all very excited about the project and we hope it takes off."
As well as indoor games, craft activities and day trips, members of the Boys' Brigade will be given the opportunity to go on camps.
Three volunteers will staff the group and Ms Grieve said she is also keen to recruit more adult volunteers so older children will be able to join.
The first sessions will include a taster of some of the activities, and people who go along will also be told what is expected of them if they are to become a member.
Ms Grieve added: "As members of the group, people will be expected to turn up regularly and we'd like them to come to a parade service at least once a month.
"We will also explain that when they are in the Boys' Brigade uniform they are representing the company and we would expect the right sort of behaviour."
