A MEMORIAL plaque to those killed in the First World War has been stolen.
The 5ft by 3ft inscribed metal plaque was taken from one of the two war memorials in Carr Bank Park, Mansfield.
It was taken some time between 7.30pm on Monday yesterday18/4 and 7.45am on today.19 April.
The plaque is understood to have been in place since the memorial, which is now a listed structure, was unveiled in 1921.
Tim Downes, parks and open spaces manager at Mansfield District Council, said: "Any crime aimed at public property is sad but a theft from a war memorial is especially deplorable and sickening.
"Whoever has committed this act has shown utter contempt for their sacrifice and we would appeal to the conscience of anyone involved or anyone who comes across the plaque to inform the police immediately."
Anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity or who knows the whereabouts of the plaque should telephone Notts Police on 0300 300 9999.
They should quote incident 120 of April 19.
