A CENTRE for homeless people in Hull is nearing completion.
The Crossings in Great Union Street is expected to open its doors in July.
Yesterday, homeless people from the Roper Street hostel helped bury a time capsule at the site.
It contained high-visibilty jackets, images of Hull, artifacts from the city's bombing in World War Two and a photograph of one of the resident's children.
The 5m development will have 46 beds, provide training to help residents gain employment, health services and a community cafe which will be open to the public.
Alan Marples, the regional manager of Riverside English Churches Housing Group, one of the organisations behind the scheme, said: "The idea behind it is that people will have a place to stay but they will eventually be able to get a job and get into a property long term.
"We want to break that cycle of people going from hostel to hostel, remaining homeless and unemployed.
"We are trying to give people not just a home, but a place where we can look after all of their needs."
Later this week, homeless people from the city will be taking a training programme, which means they are allowed on the site to help work on finishing the building, such as painting and decorating.
Once the centre is up and running, they will be able to go on different training schemes which will enable them to work at The Crossings.
Matthew Clarkson, 19, will be one of centre's residents in July.
He said: "This building will be much better than the other facilities in Hull.
"It will help me get a job in future.
"No one wants to be in this situation, it will be good to keep myself busy."
