Woman falls in Arctic waters on cruise that sailed from Hull

An Arctic cruise which sailed from Hull resulted in drama when a 73-year-old woman was dropped into below freezing waters during a rescue attempt.

Janet Richardson, of Penrith, is fighting for her life in hospital after spending four minutes struggling to stay afloat in the icy sea.

She had been returning from seeing the Northern Lights with her husband George, 78, when she was taken ill with internal bleeding on board the Ocean Countess.

A rescue operation was launched after it was decided she needed medical treatment immediately.

A passenger captured the horrifying moment she was dropped during transfer from the cruise ship to the rescue boat.
