In Brief

EAST YORKS: Health officials in the Yorkshire and Humber region are urging people to mix healthy alternatives with their Easter eggs this weekend.

They said while it is traditional to give chocolate eggs, there are plenty of healthy of alternatives which can be given instead.

Paul Johnstone, regional director for public health at NHS Yorkshire and the Humber, the region's strategic health authority, said: "Eating Easter eggs is a great tradition and eating chocolate in moderation is fine.

"However, why not experiment with healthy alternatives. For instance, send a fruit basket or give healthy Easter cakes or biscuits as gifts to your family and friends.

"Using the school holidays to get some exercise is also a good way to stay healthy and offset the effects of eating chocolate.

"You could use the time off work or school to go for a swim, go cycling or walking in the region's parks."

HULL: As the royal wedding approaches, Greggs the bakers is launching a search for local people that deserve a party.

A survey by Greggs found almost a fifth of people in the city usually work bank holidays and April 29 will be no exception.

It is now asking people to nominate neighbours, friends or people in the local community who will be missing out on the celebrations.

Winning nominees will receive an impromptu "royal party".

To nominate someone who will be at work during the bank holidays, e-mail everyonesinvited@greggs.co.uk or call 0161 2362277.
