Johan Santana Throws First No-Hitter in New York Mets History

In an 8-0 shutout of the St. Louis Cardinals, Mets pitcher Johan Santana threw the first no-hitter in the history of the New York Mets organization.

The Cardinals 2011 World Series hero David Freese struck out swinging for the final out on a devastating change-up from the 33 year old left hander. Santana finished the game with eight strikeouts and five walks.

Less than a year off of a season-ending shoulder injury, Santana was brilliant for nine strong innings against the Pujols-less Cardinals.

In an organization that included Dwight Gooden and Tom Seaver, it is quite an accomplishment that Santana can add this to his pitching resume.

The next question is: can he keep pitching at this level?
