Rising junior safety prospect Nick Glass (Atlanta, GA) committed to play for the Georgia Bulldogs in April; however, the St. Pius X school standout plans on keeping his options open and taking visits to other schools, including one to the University of Michigan in July.
"It will probably happen sometime in July," Glass told TheWolverine.com about a potential visit to Ann Arbor. "Hopefully during our dead week for my high school football team, the first week of July, but if not, I'll try to make it before the summer's over."
Glass has accrued 20 scholarship offers and has expressed a desire to visit Notre Dame, Ohio State, North Carolina, Tennessee and Vanderbilt. The Wolverines may have a leg up on their competition though when it comes to earning Glass' full attention and interest.
"I grew up a Michigan fan, next to Georgia," Glass said. "I just grew up watching Michigan, and it'll be huge to see what they have to offer. I've always lived in Atlanta, but it was just something about them. Their colors, their tradition, just how huge their stadium was, all-time college wins, 11 national championships, just everything about it."
The 6'1" and 196-pound defensive back has been in contact with Michigan's coaches, who have encouraged him to visit the campus and not rule them out until he signs a national letter of intent.
"All I have to say is I have two years," Glass explained. "I mean, I love Georgia, but it's always good to have a backup plan, and I really like Michigan."
Although his public comments indicate he is open to looking around, do not expect Glass to flip his commitment from Georgia unless there is a coaching change or other significant turn of events occur in Athens.
Those things are always possible though, especially given the fact that Glass will not be able to officially sign with any school until February 2014, which means the Wolverines are not likely to be ruled out of this recruiting war anytime soon.
One thing that could be coming to a close very soon though is Michigan's recruiting for the class of 2013. The Wolverines already have 22 prospects verbally committed and only two more scholarships available. There are several highly touted players interested in filling those spots, and they all know the scholarships offers could be accepted in the near future.
Rivals100 defensive end Wyatt Teller (Bealeton, VA) and the nation's No. 1 offensive guard Khaliel Rodgers (Elkton, MD) are both still interested in joining Michigan's class.
According to CavsCorner.com Teller's most recent top five, which the nation's No. 7 strongside defensive end and No. 75 overall prospect announced on Monday, has Michigan in it along with in-state powers Virginia Tech and Virginia in addition to Oregon and Clemson.
Meanwhile, Rodgers is still interested in taking an unofficial visit to Michigan even though head coach Brady Hoke and his staff have not offered a scholarship to the Eastern Christian Academy offensive lineman.
"They haven't offered yet, but if I get out there, I'm hoping they offer," Rodgers told Tim Sullivan of TheWolverine.com on Tuesday morning.
"I haven't been directly in touch with them; it's been through my high school coach. When I get back home [from the Rivals 5-Star Challenge], I'm definitely going to try to talk to them, because I would love to get out there for a visit. Definitely this summer."
Michigan's 2013 class already has five 4-star offensive linemen in the fold, and the coaches are unlikely to add a sixth, which means it is highly unlikely Rodgers would receive an offer from the Wolverines unless one of the prospects already in the fold decommits.
On the other hand, Teller could very well join the class given Coach Hoke's desire to have a deep stable of offensive and defensive linemen.
The Wolverines are likely holding one of their two remaining scholarships for 4-star wide receiver Laquon Treadwell (Crete, IL), who has been high on Michigan since the early days of his recruitment, but the other spot in the class could very well go to whichever highly coveted recruit pulls the trigger first.
Other top prospects with Michigan still in the mix for their services are 5-star defensive back Kendall Fuller (Olney, MD), 4-star defensive back Leon McQuay III (Seffner, FL) and 4-star running back Jordan Wilkins (Cordova, TN) among others.
Wilkins visited Michigan Tuesday afternoon, while McQuay and Fuller recently told media outlets they have the Wolverines in their respective top three's.
