NBA Rumors: Power Ranking Top Free Agent Destinations for Kevin Garnett

Kevin Garnett is going to be one of the most sought after free agents in the 2012 class.

That is quite a bold statement, but when looking at the crop of talent that is available and unrestricted this summer, there is not much except aging veterans and mediocre rotation players.

Let’s take a look at some of the top places that the Big Ticket could land in the offseason.

San Antonio Spurs

The Spurs were on the cusp of the NBA Finals, but eventually faltered against the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference finals. It was likely the last chance for the core of Manu Ginobili, Tony Parker and Tim Duncan to win it all with the current roster, but they still have a chance.

By replacing Boris Diaw with Kevin Garnett in free agency, the team would be a feisty group of elder veterans looking to make one last run at a ring. They would need to re-sign Duncan and find a way to facilitate this all under the cap, but it is certainly a possibility.

There is a reported interest from the SAS front office in acquiring KG and it will be interesting to see if they follow through.

Los Angeles Lakers

L.A. needs to retool their roster after faltering in the second round of the playoffs for the second year in a row. They are being rumored to have interest in trading Pau Gasol and his massive contract to do this.

If they can rid themselves of Gasol, the Lakers would hopefully be returning a young, athletic swingman. This may also free up some cap space to sign Garnett.

They would be getting a lot of the same production out of KG that they are from Gasol at a much cheaper price.

Boston Celtics

With Boston just a quarter away from another trip to the NBA Finals, they owe it to their superstars to re-sign them and give them one last chance to raise another banner in the Garden.

Paul Pierce and Rajon Rondo are still under contract, while Ray Allen and KG just need to get new deals for this to happen.

If they are willing to take pay cuts, the two free agent members of the Big Three would enable GM Danny Ainge to bring in a lot of support for the bench, something they lacked in 2011-12.
