Football is back.
That's right, you read that correctly. After six-something months of football deprivation, you can finally get your weekly dose of your favorite NFL team.
While preseason play isn't exactly what the doctor ordered, it means that the country is one step closer to entering full-fledged NFL mode.
Not all NFL teams were in action Thursday night, but preseason play got off to a good start.
Here are some notable takeaways from Thursday's games.
Washington Redskins vs. Buffalo Bills: Robert Griffin III Won't Be a Bust
Robert Griffin III didn't come out and blow the doors off of Ralph Wilson Stadium in Orchard Park, but he showed that he is not going to be a bust.
The No. 2 overall pick looked really comfortable in the pocket throughout his few drives with the Redskins offense.
Many people were worried about whether RGIII could sit in the pocket and consistently make throws, as he spent a lot of time scrambling during his college career, but his outing on Thursday proved he'll be just fine.
Griffin wound up going 4-of-6 for 70 yards, a touchdown and a fumble lost. The only two passes that he failed to complete were a drop and another that saw Pierre Garcon just step out of bounds.
San Diego Chargers vs. Green Bay Packers: Melvin Ingram is Going to be a Productive Pro
Melvin Ingram proved that he is a sack machine by accumulating 19 sacks in his final two seasons with the South Carolina Gamecocks.
It remains to be seen if he can do it in the regular season, but Ingram's first preseason game showed that he certainly has the ability to become a top-tier pass-rusher.
Against the Green Bay Packers, Ingram notched just two tackles and one quarterback hit, but it wasn't hard to tell that he is a special prospect.
Even though he didn't get a sack, Ingram clogged up the middle plenty and collapsed the offensive line when he rushed inward.
Offenses are going to be worrying about this guy for a long time.
Denver Broncos vs. Chicago Bears: Peyton Manning is Back
Peyton Manning only threw seven passes in his Denver Broncos debut, but he looked like he hadn't missed a step. After a year off, Manning looked like the robotic offense-leading machine that we have come to know and love (depending on which team you like).
Sure, he threw an interception, but that was off a tipped ball that hit Brandon Stokley in the chest first. He's still moving the same way as he did before the neck injury. He's still calling the offense the same way. The guy just looks like he's back in his element.
Of course, we'll have to wait and see how his body holds up once a linebacker or defensive end lays the wood on him from his blindside, but Thursday's debut was a convincing one.
