Can’t Blame The Goalie In Caps’ Loss To Boston

from Katie Carrera of Capitals Insider, Seconds after Chris Kelly’s shot found its way into the net past Braden Holtby’s outstretched glove, the Capitals’ netminder found himself surrounded by his teammates. Washington’s 1-0 overtime loss in Game 1 wasn’t one the team was going to lay at the feet of their 22-year-old rookie goaltender, from whom near perfection was required to even reach that stage of the contest.

“I think he played a hell of a game,” Alex Ovechkin said of Holtby. “Most of the time, he kept us in the game and I think he was nervous, but after the first shot you could see he was calm and he was on his roll.”

Holtby finished with a stellar 29-save showing in his first ever appearance in the Stanley Cup playoffs. It was an outing that reinforced the Capitals’ faith in the Saskatchewan native and also left a strong first impression on the Bruins.
