This morning, ESPN Radio aired an interview of Tiger Woods conducted by noted curmudgeon Colin Cowherd. And Tiger, whose game seems to be on the upswing, was as open as he has been in a long time.
The big take-home points are: 1) Tiger is healthy and sounds confident again; 2) Even Cowherd will kiss an athlete's butt when that athlete is close by.
Here are the highlights...
On whether he can still "grip it and rip it"
"Actually, I'm hitting [the ball] farther now. So, that's exciting for me. I'm fully healthy...I've got my speed back. And that's exciting. I certainly don't hit the ball as far as Gary Woodland or Dustin Johnson, but I'm not far behind."
On whether there have been times in the past two years in which he was embarrassed on the golf course
"Well, I certainly haven't been happy with the way I have played...But I'm past that, and I am fully healthy. The way I played in Australia [Presidents Cup] is pretty exciting for me."
On whether he ever fears not winning another major
"If you would have asked me that when I was on the couch this summer, in a boot and with crutches, I would have given you a different answer. It was hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. But now that I am healthy, and I am playing as many holes as I want, practicing as much as I want, putting up the numbers I want at the gym, that to me is exciting. It is exciting to go out and play golf again...I can just go out and play again."
