A Rookie Was Willing To Pay $1 Million Of His Own Money To Play In The NBA This Season

Bismack Biyombo

Other than laying claim to Michael Jordan as their owner, the Charlotte Bobcats don’t exactly have much going for them.

And even “His Airness” isn’t holding the same cache among people that it used to.

Just don’t tell that to Bismack Biyombo.

The first-round draft pick wanted to play for a franchise that’s never won more than 44 games so badly, that he was willing to pay his own way to make that a reality.

Under contract with Fuenlabrada, a Spanish club, for two more seasons, the team held Biyombo to his $1.5 million buyout. With the Bobcats only able to pay $500,000 and Biyombo’s court attempts to lower the buyout total foiled, the Congo native agreed to pay the difference out of his own pocket.

That’s serious dedication.

Especially for a team whose stated offensive philosophy this season will be to make Corey Maggette the “focal point” of their offense.
