Why the Miami Heat Could Win 60 Games During This 66-Game Season

Let's get this straight.

One game is a very small sample size to go on, but this Miami Heat team could be scary good.

Almost record setting type of good. Judging solely by what we saw on Christmas Day, this Heat team isn't going to lose many games. If we were looking at a normal 82-game regular game season, which we aren't, I see no reason at all why this Miami team wouldn't be good enough to at least take a shot at 72 wins.

Having said that, they could take a serious run at winning 60 out of 66 this season and there are several reasons why.

First and foremost is the fact that they were humbled a season ago.

Now it looks like they are on a mission and they've finally shut up and put the emphasis on basketball. If LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and company make basketball their primary focus instead of anything off the court, then they will be extremely tough for anyone to defeat.

Speaking of making basketball a focus, that brings us to James, who after his disappearing act in the NBA Finals a season ago, has committed himself to doing what he does best.

If his focus is attacking the rim and scoring in the post, who in the NBA can realistically stop him?

But if he reverts to becoming a jump shooter, Miami is beatable.

By doing what he's best at, James not only improves his game but also takes considerable pressure off the rest of his teammates.

Another reason the Heat could make a run at 60 wins is the lack of turnover in their roster.

Play around the league is going to be sloppy for a while and with the amount of games per week, you are bound to see some up and down performances.

Miami went through the learning stage a season ago, so it shouldn't have an impact on them this season.

Their stars are also still young and in their prime. There is no case where the schedule should wear them down too much.

At the end of the day though, talent wins out and the Heat have more superstar talent than any other team in the NBA .

Baring injury to James or Wade, which really shouldn't be a concern, this current Miami Heat team has a realistic shot at winning 60 games.
