The Texas Rangers won the rights to Japanese pitcher Yu Darvish with a $51.7 million bid.
It's the highest bid ever for a Japanese player, about $600,000 million more than the Boston Red Sox paid for a chance to sign Daisuke Matsuzaka in 2006.
The Rangers will now have 30 days to work out a contract with Darvish. If they are unable to reach a deal, Darvish will return to Japan and the Rangers get their money back.
Some other teams that reportedly bid on Darvish were the Blue Jays and Yankees.
