2012 MLB Free Agents: Albert Pujols Would Be Crazy to Ignore Cubs' Calls

Albert Pujols should jump at the chance to join the Chicago Cubs. With Theo Epstein taking the reins, the most highly touted free agent on the market would have a chance to bring a championship to a Cubs fanbase that is starving for a World Series, make a boat load of cash and prove that he is without a doubt the best player in baseball.

ESPN reports that the Cubs have reached out to Pujols' representatives. This has to send chills down the spine of Cardinals fans, as they would likely rather see Pujols go anywhere but Chicago.

In the same light, many Cubs fans may be put off by the idea of bringing in "one of them," especially with the hefty price tag he's going to come along with.

The fact of the matter is, a bat like Pujols' in the lineup would do wonders for the Cubs. Chicago fans that have waited their entire lifetime to see the Cubs win it all might finally get that chance with the direction the team is going and this isn't the time to be choosy about how they get to the World Series.

Exploring a lesser option like Prince Fielder who carries a giant price tag of his own is a possibility for the Cubs, but Pujols is worth every penny of the record deal that is inevitably coming his way.

It's a great time to be part of the Cubs organization. It's hard to recall a time when the optimism was so high in Chicago and with hopes so high, Pujols could be the second savior to make his way to the Windy City.

Chicago could hope to see Pujols bat .300, hit 40 homers and knock in 100 RBI, but his impact in Chicago would stretch far beyond the absurd stats he would undoubtedly put up.

The potential to repeat in St. Louis has to be appealing to Pujols, but he would be crazy not to listen to what the Cubs have to say.
