Texas Christian University Is Joining The Big 12

MWC TCU Football

According to a CBS Sports blog, Texas Christian University has accepted an offer to join the Big 12 for the 2012-13 school year.

TCU was set to join the Big East on July 1, 2012. Their early departure forces the school to pay a $5 million exit fee.

Because they hadn’t officially joined as a conference member, TCU is not beholden to the 27-month waiting period like Syracuse and Pittsburgh.

TCU board members have scrambled to set up a meeting announcing the decision, according to the New York Times' Pete Thamel.

The Horned Frogs will replace exiting Texas A&M. The Big 12 continues to await the fate of Missouri’s decision, who is considering joining the Aggies in the SEC.

With TCU’s departure, the Big East will be left with just six football playing members – and a litany of difficult decisions regarding the future of its existence.
