The Seattle Seahawks (2-3) rode a late touchdown drive by Charlie Whitehurst and a 94-yard interception return for a touchdown by Brandon Browner to get a much-needed victory over the New York Giants (3-2).
It looked as though Seattle was going to let this game slip away. Twice in the first half they had the ball inside the Giants 10-yard line and lost a fumble. Instead of a 21-7, or potential 28-7, lead in the second quarter, they went into halftime with a 14-14 tie.
The Seattle Seahawks were a bad road team under Mike Holmgren and Jim Mora. When it came to early starts on the East Coast, they were downright pathetic...losing 11 of their last 12 games.
It could have been easy for the Seahawks to believe this game would be yet another lost trip east. The Giants had momentum and the ball coming out of the locker room.
Despite going three and out on their first two offensive possessions, the Giants seemed to get a spark when Tarvaris Jackson left the game after taking a helmet to the shoulder after being flushed from the pocket. He was running for a first down when Deon Grant tackled him from behind.
He left the game and didn't return, and Charlie Whitehurst wasn't able to pick up a first down on his first possession. John Ryan stepped in and punted 48 yards to the Giants 5-yard line.
The next play was a five-yard loss for a safety...the only points of the third quarter.
Eli Manning led three solid drives in the fourth quarter, but they ended in 10 points for the Giants...and seven for the Seahawks. Victor Cruz made an amazing catch and 68-yard touchdown on a ball that was tipped by Kam Chancellor. The two-point conversion gave the Giants a 22-19 lead.
Charlie Whitehurst led one solid Seahawk drive. He hit Doug Baldwin and Anthony McCoy for two plays of 20+ yards. Then he hit Baldwin who was wide open in the end zone after three Giant defenders converged on a quick out, making the score 29-25.
Victor Cruz made another nice catch, the 41-yard gain putting the Giants inside the Seahawks 25. He was not able to pull off the luck hat trick, though. A Manning pass was resting on Cruz' fingers but Brandon Browner snagged the ball and returned it 94 yards for the final blow.
