NFL Free Agency: 5 Best Fits CB Cortland Finnegan

With a month remaining before the NFL's free-agency period begins, the Tennessee Titans have yet to make any major movements in talks with free-agent cornerback Cortland Finnegan. If no deal can be reached during the team's exclusive negotiating window, Finnegan will become a free agent on March 13 that is able to sign with any team of his choosing.

If that scenario comes to fruition, plenty of teams will look into adding the 28-year-old cornerback. Let's take a look at five teams that represent the best fits for Finnegan:

Detroit Lions

The connection between Finnegan and Lions head Jim Schwartz—who, from 2001-08, was the Titans defensive coordinator—are fairly obvious. The fact that both Kyle Vanden Bosch and Stephen Tulloch made the move from Nashville to Detroit only strengthens the idea. The Lions could likely use more depth at cornerback too.

Tennessee Titans

From day one, Finnegan has made it sound like his first option would be a return to the Titans. The Titans have the cap room to make it work, and there's always the option of franchising Finnegan at just over $10 million. A month is a long time to negotiate a new deal.

St. Louis Rams

Like Detroit, Finnegan-to-St.Louis has an obvious connection and need to make this an option. Jeff Fisher, Finnegan's first head coach, is now the head coach of the Rams, and his secondary could use the kind of boost that Finnegan provides.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Buccaneers are flush with cap room and have problems at the cornerback position. Ronde Barber may yet retire, and Aqib Talib is still facing legal problems. For new head coach Greg Schiano, improving the secondary has to be high on his list of offseason priorities.

Dallas Cowboys

It's no secret that the Cowboys are looking for new faces in the secondary this offseason, so expect Jerry Jones to be aggressive finding those faces both in the draft and free agency. If Finnegan reaches the open market, Dallas has to be considered a top landing spot.
