Talking Trade Rumors

from Eric Duhatschek of the Globe and Mail, So today, here on the newly minted NHLFaketrades.com hub, let?s begin by pondering why all those killjoy general managers keep explaining why certain players aren?t moving after all. Islanders GM Garth Snow quashed the Evgeni Nabokov speculation. He hopes to sign him. The Carolina Hurricanes are keeping Tuomo Ruutu, also in the hopes of signing him, but if they don?t or they can?t, well, then he?ll be available. Nash IS available in Columbus, but after all that early breathless speculation, everyone is taking a step back and pondering a question I posed a few days ago? How good is Nash really (no 80-point years thus far in his career)? And is he worth the money ($7.8-million per season)?

And if Nash isn?t, then why would Jeff Carter be?

I can?t even bring myself to make up any Schneider rumours because I can?t see Vancouver trading him just yet, but if they do, wouldn?t Tampa be a good landing place for the rights to Victor Hedman? Sami Salo?s gotta retire eventually, and if you had Hedman maybe you could give up Alexander Edler too, in a package for a top-six forward ... like maybe Nash. Except Nash will likely end up in Los Angeles, where he fills a need, gets to play with former Canadian Olympian Mike Richards and maybe is the marquee attraction the Kings so desperately need. After trading away Dominic Moore to San Jose for a draft choice Thursday, Tampa?s got to be thinking about moving Ryan Malone - why shouldn?t he be a King too, for Dustin Penner?s expiring contract and a second-round draft choice?
