MP raises plight of autistic boy

A NOTTS MP has called on the Prime Minister to help an autistic boy in his constituency whose speech and language therapy is being cut.

Vernon Coaker, MP for Gedling, raised the issue with David Cameron at Prime Minister's Questions in the House of Commons yesterday.

Six-year-old Dylan Scothern, of Netherfield, had been receiving help from a speech and language therapist provided by Notts Community Health.

But now the service will only be offered to children who are five or younger, because of a lack of money.

On hearing of the case Mr Cameron said: "Everyone in this house will work as hard as they possibly can to help that family to get the help that they need."

Mr Cameron said that would mean going to the relevant authority and arguing the case to provide more funding.

He added: "You have to make the fight. We are going to be producing a paper on special educational needs which will try and reform the way these things are done and make it less confrontational.

"I know as a parent how tough it can be sometimes to get what your family needs."
