Notts: Ammonites, an extinct group of marine invertebrate animals, are the subject of a meeting of Nottingham and Notts Field Club.
Speaker John Fox will give a talk at the International Community Centre, Mansfield Road, on Saturday from 2.30pm.
Admission to the meeting costs �1. Visitors are welcome and the club is looking to attract new members. Annual subscription is �6 per year.
Gilthill: People interested in textiles can sign up for lessons with an experienced teacher.
Previous students have made their own clothes, bags, wall hangings and quilts.
The sessions will take place at the teacher's home in a fully-equipped workshop and will cater for all levels of ability.
They are on weekdays, except Thursdays, at various times of the day and evening.
Lessons are limited to five students and cost �3.50 per hour.

Newstead: Five bands will perform at the Midland Area Test Piece Festival.
The event takes place at the Newstead Centre on Sunday, February 27.
The event will feature hosts Newstead Brass and bands from Hathern, Long Eaton, Shirebrook and Whitwell.
Each will play the music set for its grade of the championship, as well as a hymn tune, and will receive feedback on its performance from experienced brass band adjudicator John Roberts.
The first band will play at 7pm. Admission costs �1.
Notts: A charity is appealing for donations of clothes to a new online recycling scheme.
The scheme, run by BCR Global Textiles in partnership with Breast Cancer Campaign, allows people to arrange for unwanted textiles to be collected from their home or workplace.
For every tonne of clothes recycled, Breast Cancer Campaign will receive �200 towards research. Visit www.bcrbreastcancercampaign. com to register and receive a recycling clothes bag.
