That can't be right, can it? Arian Foster is the king of Texas sports? I mean, there's Jerry Jones, Tony Romo, Josh Hamilton and Dirk Nowitzki, all of whom are as big as they come, Titans in Texas and household names from California to the Carolina's.
But it is right. According to our readers, Foster rules The Lone Star State. Bleacher Report recently asked Texas sports fans to crown their local king, and they tabbed the Houston Texans running back to be their ruler. Sorry, Jerry. You and your massive stadium that houses "America's Team," have to take a backseat to this upstart star of the backfield.
Given how much attention the Cowboys command, this can be hard to believe. Same with the Rangers' ability to reach the World Series (Hamilton) and the Mavs bringing home a title to Dallas (Nowitzki). They were all national stories, but we wanted Texas sports fans to chime in.
They delivered an upset. But Houston Texans fans won't see it like this, no way. And they shouldn't. The way they view it, Foster is a dynamic, talented star who has the ability to carry (literally) this team to new heights.
As of today (and this is before his Texans play the hapless Colts), he's rumbled for more than 1,000 yards and nine TDs, all while dealing with an influx of injures at the quarterback position. Matt Schaub's been out since Mid-November, meaning more of a burden fell on Foster's shoulders. He's scored three touchdowns since, and helped the team clinch its first ever division title and playoff berth.
So yeah, he may not be a billionaire tycoon or a well-known quarterback who's dated A-list celebs. He may not have captivated the country with an insane home run derby outing or been the darling of the NBA finals, but it's OK.
Foster's a worker, a hard worker. That's appreciated in Texas.
