Civic leader Paul Rounding has vowed to fight to clear his name of a kerb-crawling charge.
The well-known Driffield mayor is to face trial after being accused of the offence in Hull last year.
Mr Rounding has pleaded not guilty to soliciting a prostitute in St Luke's Street, west Hull, on October 27.
He said: "My wife and family at 100 per cent behind me on this and I will fight to clear my name.
"I can't say too much at the moment, but when it all comes out people will see how ridiculous this charge is.
"We have a good solicitor and I'm absolutely confident that I will walk out of court with my good name intact."
Mr Rounding, 55, of The Horseshoe, Driffield, was offered the chance to take a 'changing behaviour course' at the time of the alleged offence.
He said: "If I had accepted the police's offer and taken the course, that would have been the end of the matter and nobody would have known anything about this.
"I'm a man of principles and if I had done anything wrong I would have held my hands up and taken it on the nose.
"But I know that I have done nothing wrong and that's why I have pleaded not guilty to clear my name."
Mr Rounding stood as the Labour candidate in the East Yorkshire constituency in the General Election last May.
He was narrowly beaten into third place behind the Liberal Democrat candidate, as Greg Knight retained the seat for the Tories.
Mr Rounding, whose wife Lynn is his mayoress, has been a Driffield town councillor for almost 25 years and is in his third term as mayor.
He has a long association with local government, being a former member of East Riding Council, and serving as its first chairman in 1997.
Mr Rounding was released on bail from Hull Magistrates' Court and will stand trial there on March 14.
