While the most important thing about the Royal Rumble is who wins the main event, the 30-man battle royal can also be used to advance other storylines. The Road to WrestleMania will get rolling on Sunday night, so expect a couple feuds, like the three below, to be pushed by eliminations.
Sheamus eliminates Wade Barrett
Sheamus and Barrett are caught in a tough spot. They both deserve to be in the main event picture, but have been relegated to other feuds in recent weeks, while Big Show and Mark Henry continue to battle Daniel Bryan.
There have been minor hints of a storyline developing between the two. Sheamus taking out Barrett in the Rumble would really heat it up, allowing the eventual winner of the angle to finally get a deserved push that probably should have come months ago.
The Miz eliminates R-Truth
R-Truth has been getting the better of The Miz since he returned from his wellness suspension. But you have to assume that's not going to last much longer since Miz has a much better track record of being a legitimate star and WrestleMania right around the corner.
Since Miz is already locked into the first spot as a result of his loss on RAW, it wouldn't be a major surprise if R-Truth “randomly” draws the second spot. It would allow them to battle it out for a little while before the third participant comes out, and then Miz can score the elimination.
Zack Ryder eliminates Jack Swagger
Even though Ryder suffered a kayfabe back injury on RAW, I am hesitant to believe the WWE is going to leave one of its fastest rising stars out of a marquee event like the Rumble. They've been building him up as someone who fights through injuries, and I'd expect him to do the same on Sunday.
Swagger took the United States belt from him, so it makes since for Ryder to make a statement that he wants it back by taking him out of the Rumble. The manner in which the “All-American American” took the title makes him a weak champion, so it's only a matter of time before Ryder takes it back.
