THE Government go-ahead for the smart metering programme will benefit Wollaton-based Siemens Metering Services, a world leader in its field.
Director Martin Pollock said it places Nottingham at the global centre of smart metering.
It works closely with energy companies, installing and reading meters.
Siemens Metering has built up strong relationships with governments and energy companies across continents.
From its Wollaton offices, it designs meters which are then outsourced for manufacture.
Mr Pollock said the national go-ahead for smart meters will have a direct benefit for the company. He said: "We design the whole system from the billing, serving and customer service concept to screwing a meter to a wall. The Government announcement is very positive for us."
The announcement of a smart metering system by the Government was co-ordinated with announcements from other European governments.
